KOSPI shallow, KOSDAQ deep — the day foreigners sold and I picked up 000810

Today the KOSPI closed at -0.54% and the KOSDAQ at -1.78%. The bigger index was pressed lightly while the KOSDAQ sank far deeper, so I read it less as the whole market caving and more as the side with the weakest support running out of breath first.

Foreigners threw, institutions caught

SegmentForeignersInstitutions
KOSPI10,340억 net sold7,762억 net bought
KOSDAQ504억 net sold397억 net sold

On the KOSPI, foreigners dumped 10,340억 and institutions still absorbed 7,762억, which is why the index held at -0.54%. On the KOSDAQ, foreigners sold 504억 and institutions sold 397억 alongside them, nobody was left to catch it, and that gap printed as -1.78%.

The news fits the same picture. SK hynix halted its review of a Solidigm IPO, citing market conditions, and headlines asked whether AI funding worries are spreading to big tech. Sector-wise, AI and copper/minerals were weak while consumer staples and fintech held up, so money looked to be stepping out of the growth story and sitting down somewhere more defensive.

Calm on the surface, pressure underneath

In the bigger picture, the market looks calm but rate and credit pressure hasn't gone away. So I don't file today's drop as one-off noise. If funding worries are quietly shaving value off AI names beneath a still surface, today feels more like one more day of that drift.

I don't rush on days like this. In my paper portfolio I quietly picked up just one name today, ticker 000810. On a day foreigners sold, I sort of lined up on the side institutions were buying. It's a paper record, nothing more, and not a suggestion to anyone. I'll keep writing in my ledger and watch which way the flows lean tomorrow.
