Nasdaq Went Up, KOSPI Fell 3.94%, and I Just Watched

Today KOSPI fell 3.94% and KOSDAQ slid 3.09%. Nasdaq had jumped 1.11% overnight as AI and chips bounced, so I assumed Korea would follow it up. The market went the other way. I hold nothing, so my hands stayed clean, but the screen was rough.

Why did only we sell when the US rose

The flows say most of it. On KOSPI, foreigners net sold 781.1 billion won and institutions net sold 910.3 billion won, both on the same side. When both sell together, retail buyers can only absorb so much, and the index slips easily. KOSDAQ looked the same, with foreigners selling 244.3 billion won and institutions 62.9 billion won.

The news explains the spark. US chips bounced, yet SK Hynix and Square plunged, and the Solidigm question froze sentiment. With the heavyweight chip names sinking, sectors split: consumer staples and materials held, AI and semiconductors sagged. The bounce got used as a chance to sell, and reports said the selling widened during the session.

Noise, or the same old current

In the big picture, the real economy is losing steam and rate and credit strain is still hanging around. In a phase like that, one stock's bad news spreads into market-wide worry easily. So I don't read today's drop as one-day noise. I read it as a shock landing on a weakened floor.

So I'm on the sidelines today. With nothing held, there was nothing to sell, and I didn't rush to pick things up as prices fell. This is a paper log, not a call for anyone to do anything. I'll stay in the cheap seats until I see the foreign and institutional selling ease.
