A 6,008.81 morning, and a 5,673.01 that won't line up

Right after the open, my screen shows the KOSPI at 6,008.81 (-0.44%) and the KOSDAQ at 823.88 (-1.57%). Against the previous brief (15:10), that's another -0.40%p for the KOSPI and -0.32%p for the KOSDAQ. Yet the 09:08 flashes speak of a KOSPI opening 5.59% lower at 5,673.01. With the two numbers at odds, I'm first sorting out which one is the market right now.

Foreigners sold, institutions caught

Here is the flow, side by side.

MarketForeignersInstitutions
KOSPI11,791억 net sold8,119억 net bought
KOSDAQ2,128억 net sold1,787억 net sold

On the KOSPI, institutions are absorbing what foreigners throw; on the KOSDAQ both sides are selling, which is why the dent runs deeper. The reason sits on the road last night's US session (10/14 close) paved. Nasdaq -1.88%, S&P500 -1.11%, with semiconductors and clean energy weak, and today's market inherited that. The flashes add talk of a US rate hike and a sell-side sidecar. The won at 1,340.31 per dollar (+0.46%) probably weighed on foreign hands too.

What I'm watching from here

There are 6 hours 20 minutes to the close. First, how the gap between the flash's 5,673.01 and the screen's 6,008.81 gets resolved, and whether the KOSPI foreign net selling of 11,791억 swells or shrinks. My holdings are marked at Hyundai Rotem -16.4%, Celltrion -3.9%, Vertex -6.0%, ConocoPhillips +12.2%. That's the running mark-to-market, not today's move, and I just jot the numbers down and keep watching.
