KOSPI held, KOSDAQ slipped — the day institutions caught the 4 trillion won foreigners threw
Today KOSPI held at +0.41% while KOSDAQ slid -0.69%. Same session, two indexes pointing in different directions — a slightly off-kilter day.
Foreigners threw, institutions caught
| Group | Foreigners | Institutions |
|---|---|---|
| KOSPI | 4,578.9B won net sold | 1,668.5B won net bought |
| KOSDAQ | 133.9B won net bought | 45.9B won net bought |
Foreigners sold 4,578.9 billion won on KOSPI and the index still rose, because institutions soaked up 1,668.5 billion won. Wall Street fell across the board overnight on mixed bank earnings and weak chips, so I understand why foreigners unloaded. Still, September ICT exports crossing 70 billion dollars for the first time gave institutions a reason to buy, or so I read it.
KOSDAQ went down even though foreigners bought 133.9 billion won and institutions 45.9 billion won. Sectors outweighed flows: energy and consumer staples were strong, but aerospace and clean energy were weak enough to drag the index lower despite the buyers.
A calm tape over softening real data
In the big picture, the market is calm while real-economy indicators are losing steam. The 70 billion dollar export record is dazzling, but it leans on the AI-fueled chip boom, and with headlines warning that Korea is wobbling over Samsung Electronics, I see that concentration as a double-edged sword. To me today's move is mostly noise; the concentration and the softening real data are the actual current.
So today I picked up 267260 — one name, quietly, no rush. This is a paper-portfolio record, not a suggestion to anyone.
