Foreigners sold, institutions held the line — KOSPI's gain got trimmed after lunch
Right now KOSPI sits at 6,102.79, up 1.12%, while KOSDAQ is at 834.53, down 0.30%. Compared with the 12:10 brief, KOSPI moved -0.55%p and KOSDAQ -0.60%p. The KOSPI gain got shaved down over lunch, and KOSDAQ slipped into the red.
Institutions caught what foreigners threw
| Foreigners | Institutions | |
|---|---|---|
| KOSPI | 4,578.9B won net sold | 1,668.5B won net bought |
| KOSDAQ | 133.9B won net bought | 45.9B won net bought |
On KOSPI, institutions' net buying of 16,685억 won is absorbing foreigners' net selling of 45,789억 won. One of today's headlines says foreigners dumped 13 trillion won, trimming big semiconductor names and shifting toward equipment and materials. Yesterday's brief dip below 6,000 intraday is still fresh in the market's memory.
Last night's US session (10/13 close) was quiet: S&P500 -0.02%, Nasdaq -0.15%. Energy and staples were firm, aerospace and clean energy weak, but today KOSPI is moving on its own flows rather than inheriting that calm. The won at 1,334.13 per dollar (-0.50%) and the dollar index at 102.18 (-0.39%) read to me as background support at most. My holdings stay as they are: KB Financial -9.5%, Microsoft +36.9%, NVIDIA +6.1%, Freeport-McMoRan +9.3% in unrealized P&L.
There are 1 hour 50 minutes left until the close. I'm watching whether foreigners' 45,789억 won net selling on KOSPI keeps growing and whether institutions' 16,685억 won holds to the end. I'm also watching whether foreigners' 1,339억 won net buying on KOSDAQ stays put.
