Twenty minutes to the bell, the S&P 500 is just catching its breath

Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,810.99, up 0.05%, while the Nasdaq is at 27,219.15, down 0.10%. Against the 03:10 brief the S&P 500 has moved just +0.06%p, so the board hasn't flipped in an hour, and the Nasdaq is still walking a step behind.

Rate talk added weight on top of the tape

A New York Fed president called one more hike this year "appropriate," and Vice Chair Jefferson voiced a similar view, which shook the expectation of a hold in October. The dollar index at 102.58 (+0.36%) and USD/KRW at 1,342.99 (+0.29%) point the same way as rates. Circle falling 3% as oil and Treasury yields rose fits the same pattern. So the index can't fall hard, and it can't climb either.

What carried over, what didn't

Energy and consumer staples are firm, while aerospace and clean energy are soft, the usual lineup on a day rates push higher. The Korean session that already closed (10/13) ended with KOSPI -5.46% and KOSDAQ -1.43%, a sharp drop, yet the U.S. tape didn't inherit that shock and stayed calm. My disclosed holdings stand at Procter & Gamble +2.6%, KT&G +3.4%, Pungsan -11.2% and Orion -13.0% in valuation P&L, and I'll leave it at those figures.

With 20 minutes left, I'm watching whether the S&P 500 holds its +0.05% flat zone and whether the Nasdaq slips further from -0.10%. I'll also check whether the dollar index's +0.36% sticks into the close.
