KOSPI -5.48%: Foreigners Shut the Door, and I Picked Up One Shipbuilder
KOSPI sank -5.48%, while KOSDAQ lost only 1.95%. When the big sea flips, the small boat rocks less. I sat there staring at the screen while my coffee went cold.
No one left to catch the KOSPI
| Market | Foreigners | Institutions |
|---|---|---|
| KOSPI | 20,110억 net sold | 1,338억 net sold |
| KOSDAQ | 130억 net sold | 2,196억 net sold |
On KOSPI, foreigners dumped 20,110억 and institutions net sold another 1,338억, so nobody was standing underneath. On KOSDAQ foreigners sold just 130억 while the institutional selling was the bigger piece, and I read that difference as why the two markets fell by such different amounts. On the news side, the story about China's push leaving Samsung and SK Hynix in emergency mode poked at KOSPI's biggest weight, and I think that worry dovetailed with the foreign selling.
Money ducking into defensive corners
The sector map tells the same story. Utilities and consumer staples held up, while aerospace and clean energy got pushed down. The money seemed to leave growth narratives and hide where the economy matters less.
Noise, or the trend continuing?
Add the one-line economic read: the market mood itself was calm, but the real-economy indicators are losing steam. So I can't write off today's -5.48% as one-off noise; it looks more like a weakening floor showing itself all at once.
Still, today I put 009540 (HD Korea Shipbuilding) into my paper portfolio. The news that K-shipbuilding will put 1.4 trillion won into its AI transition stuck with me, and on a day when everyone was shutting doors, I left one open. This is a paper record only, not a word of advice to anyone.
