The 6,000 line gave way, and the floor dropped again in ninety minutes
The KOSPI sits at 5,916.80, -7.32% right now. It was already hurting at the 10:40 brief, and it has given up another -1.87%p since. The KOSDAQ is at 803.68 (-5.36%), down a further -1.70%p. The 6,000 line broke intraday and a sell-side sidecar fired for the first time in two months. This wasn't the same drop printed twice. The floor itself sank a level.
Wall Street was quiet last night
Last night's US session (10/12 close) ended tame: S&P500 -0.06%, Nasdaq -0.44%. That can't explain -7.32% in Seoul. The one news thread touching the index is worry over Chinese memory makers closing the technology gap, and flows piled on top of it.
| Segment | Foreign | Institutional |
|---|---|---|
| KOSPI | 20,110억 net sold | 1,338억 net sold |
| KOSDAQ | 130억 net sold | 2,196억 net sold |
On the KOSPI, foreigners' 20,110억 did the pressing. On the KOSDAQ, it was institutions at 2,196억 who sold heavier than foreigners. USD/KRW at 1,342.99 (+0.29%) and the dollar index at 102.41 (+0.19%) leaned a touch toward the dollar, but they don't look like the culprit. Last night's strength in staples and energy and weakness in aerospace and clean energy (10/12 close) also has a different texture from today's across-the-board slide. This didn't inherit last night's tape. It came from inside Korea.
And my book through all this
My disclosed holdings stand at 풍산 -14.0%, 오리온 -13.5%, KB금융 -10.1% and KT&G +3.3% in unrealized P&L. That's accumulated P&L, not today's move, and I don't read it as a forecast.
Three hours and twenty minutes to the close. I'm watching whether foreign selling swells past 20,110억 even after the sidecar, and whether drops like that -1.87%p lose their speed.
