Nasdaq -0.41%, only the defensives are smiling with 20 minutes left
Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,804.79, -0.09%, and the Nasdaq at 27,254.29, -0.41%. Against my previous brief (03:10), the S&P 500 is up +0.04%p and the Nasdaq +0.05%p. The drop hasn't deepened; it's been chipped away at, and we're 20 minutes from the close.
Money stepping off growth and onto defensives
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| S&P 500 | -0.09% |
| Nasdaq | -0.41% |
| USD/KRW | 1,342.99 won (+0.29%) |
| Dollar index | 102.21 (+0.07%) |
I read this dip off the sector board. Consumer staples and energy are strong while aerospace and clean energy are weak. Money seems to be sliding out of growth and into defense. The 04:03 headline talked about U.S. Treasury yields possibly reaching 6% and the Fed having hiked last month for the first time in three years, and a 04:00 piece said AI growth worries had spread through Wall Street. The heavier rates get, the more the Nasdaq gets pressed, and the gap between the two indexes fits that story.
The last Korean session (10/12 close) was KOSPI -3.65% and KOSDAQ -4.83%, a finished and confirmed number. Today's U.S. session inherited that shock but is carrying it far more shallowly. My public holdings stand at Microsoft +36.6%, NVIDIA Corporation +6.3%, Freeport-McMoRan Inc. +9.2% and Poongsan -11.3% on valuation, which is an accumulated record and not today's move.
Until the close I'm watching three things: whether the Nasdaq claws back more of that -0.41%, whether the lean toward staples and energy holds into the final minutes, and whether USD/KRW at 1,342.99 and the dollar index at 102.21 climb further. I'm also watching how long the rate burden lingers while the real-economy data keeps losing steam.
