Kosdaq slipped 2.57%p in an hour, and foreigners are leaning on the Kospi
Right now the Kospi sits at 6,438.30, down 2.83%, and the Kosdaq at 863.20, down 3.26%. Against the 09:10 brief, the Kospi slipped only another 0.21%p, while the Kosdaq sank 2.57%p in a single hour. This morning only the Kospi was aching; now the Kosdaq is hurting right alongside it.
The Kospi got dumped on together, the Kosdaq held on alone
| Market | Foreigners | Institutions |
|---|---|---|
| Kospi | 20,767억 net sold | 16,750억 net sold |
| Kosdaq | 780억 net bought | 1,075억 net sold |
On the Kospi, foreigners and institutions sold in the same direction. On the Kosdaq, foreigners took in 780억 net, but that wasn't enough to absorb institutions' 1,075억 of selling by itself. On the news side, SK Square fell in the 4% range intraday on disappointment over OpenAI's results, becoming the face of the chip weakness.
Last US session (10/9 close) had the S&P500 up 0.59% and the Nasdaq up 0.64%. But aerospace and semiconductors were weak that day, and today's session seems to have inherited the chip weakness without the US warmth. The won sits at 1,342.99 per dollar (+0.29%), and the dollar index is 102.10 (-0.10%). The BoK governor's remarks at the audit, that inflation stays above target and another rate hike is possible, added weight to the mood.
My disclosed holdings carry NVIDIA +7.5%, Freeport-McMoRan +9.9%, Microsoft +0.0% and Amazon.com -8.3% in unrealized P&L. That's a running record, not today's move. With 4 hours 50 minutes to the close, I'm watching whether the Kospi foreign net selling grows past 20,767억 and whether the Kosdaq foreign net buying of 780억 holds.
