Twenty minutes to the bell, and Wall Street is just catching its breath

With twenty minutes left, the S&P 500 sits at 7,814.01, up 0.63%, and the Nasdaq at 27,362.96, up 0.62%. Against my last brief (03:10), that's only +0.03%p more for the S&P 500 and +0.05%p for the Nasdaq, so nothing flipped in between. I read this as a market holding its ground and catching its breath.

The headlines were loud, the index didn't blink

Trump is pushing once more to remove Fed governor Lisa Cook, setting up a White House panel over mortgage-fraud allegations. That touches Fed independence, so it isn't trivial, yet the index held its ground. The dollar index slipping 0.10% and the won gaining 0.05% seems to have eased some pressure on risk assets. By sector, cybersecurity and cybersecurity 2 were strong, while aerospace and clean energy lagged. This isn't a tide lifting everything; the gains are uneven.

Seoul's drop didn't follow it across the Pacific

The Korean session already closed (10/8): KOSPI -2.62%, KOSDAQ -0.69%. US stocks haven't followed that slide down; they're up, so I'll note that they ran against the grain. My disclosed holdings stand at NVIDIA Corporation +7.6%, Freeport-McMoRan Inc. +10.1%, KT&G +1.8% and Poongsan -8.6%. Those are accumulated unrealized gains and losses, not today's moves.

Three things I'm watching in the last twenty minutes: whether the indexes close near +0.63% and +0.62%, whether the Cook story grows into a Fed-independence fight that reverses the dollar index's 0.10% dip, and whether cybersecurity's strength lasts until the closing bell. I'll keep watching and finish writing this record.
