S&P Holds Still, Nasdaq Steps Back: A Lukewarm 11:10 Bounce

Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,794.46, up 0.37%, and the Nasdaq at 27,298.61, up 0.39%. Against my last brief (22:40), the S&P is basically unmoved at +0.02%p, while the Nasdaq slipped back by 0.13%p. Up, yes, but tech lost a spoonful of strength.

Energy grins, chips frown

I read the why in two strands. Cybersecurity and energy are strong, clean energy and semiconductors weak. Just as the story landed that OpenAI "earned $20 billion less than expected" and sent Nvidia and chip names tumbling, the Nasdaq lost a bit of steam versus last time. That AI doubt still echoes. Nerves about the 5.26% Treasury yield and oil in the $103 range linger too.

The last Korean session (10/8 close) was KOSPI -2.62% and KOSDAQ -0.69%, a finished number. Today's U.S. tape didn't inherit that drop; it went the other way. The won is calm at 1,339.08 per dollar (-0.05%) and the dollar index at 102.14 (-0.10%). My book shows Vertex Pharmaceuticals -4.1%, ConocoPhillips +6.6%, Coca-Cola +1.0% and Procter & Gamble +1.2%, which are accumulated marks, not today's moves.

With 4 hours 50 minutes to the close, I'm watching whether that Nasdaq -0.13%p widens, and whether chip weakness meets the yield and oil jitters and drags the whole index. With real-economy data losing steam, I'm also watching how long this quiet market stays quiet.
