Foreign investors dumped 2.6 trillion won, yet the Kospi clawed back to -0.52%
Right now the Kospi sits at 6,768.45, down 0.52%, while the Kosdaq is at 901.39, up 0.33%. Compared with the 09:10 brief, the Kospi has come up 1.46%p and the Kosdaq 2.67%p. The morning's dent has mostly been patched, but the Kospi is still parked on the red side.
Big hands selling, other hands holding up the floor
| Group | Foreigners | Institutions |
|---|---|---|
| Kospi | 26,188 (100M won) net sold | 7,101 (100M won) net sold |
| Kosdaq | 2,499 (100M won) net sold | 2,098 (100M won) net sold |
The first thing that snagged my eye was the Kospi's foreign net selling of 26,188 (100M won). The news said surging US Treasury yields helped knock the Kospi off the '7,000 mark' on the 2nd, and the dollar index is at 102.21, up 0.38%. Yet what helped claw back the drop was LG Energy Solution's strong earnings lifting battery names. The won is at 1,339.74 per dollar, down 0.30%, and Korea Investment & Securities sees the 1,330 zone and won strength possibly lasting.
Last night's mood: only the Kospi tagged along
Overnight on Wall Street (10/7 close), the S&P500 and Nasdaq both slipped 0.22%, with utilities and cybersecurity firm and biotech weak. That session is already history. The Kospi's softness follows that mild dip, while the Kosdaq's 0.33% gain runs against it. Same selling, two different faces.
With 4 hours 50 minutes to the close, I'm watching whether the Kospi's 26,188 foreign net selling swells or shrinks. After that: does the won hold the 1,330 zone, and does the Kospi shake off that -0.52%.
