A bounce that died three minutes in, and foreign investors packed more bags
KOSPI opened at 6,808.68 (+0.07%), slipped right away, and sits at 6,781.95 (-0.32%) in early trade, while KOSDAQ hit -1.16%. I'd hoped for a little give-back after yesterday's close of 6,803.90 (-1.98%), but I just watched the bounce die within minutes. Against the previous brief (15:10), KOSPI is down another 0.44%p and KOSDAQ another 0.42%p.
Samsung's 100 trillion party, and foreigners still left early
The flows tell it most honestly. Foreigners net sold 2,618.8 billion won on KOSPI, 861.1 billion more than last time, and institutions sold 710.1 billion. At 9:07 the news said Samsung Electronics booked quarterly operating profit of 100 trillion won, but the market expected 120 trillion and the won's sharp drop got the blame. That seems to have drawn more eyes than the headline.
| Item | KOSPI | KOSDAQ |
|---|---|---|
| Foreign net selling | 2,618.8bn won | 249.9bn won |
| Institutional net selling | 710.1bn won | 209.8bn won |
| Foreign selling added vs. last brief | 861.1bn won | 365.0bn won |
Last night's US session (10/7 close) was tame: S&P500 -0.22%, Nasdaq -0.22%, with utilities and cybersecurity strong. That's a finished session, settled numbers. The US dip was shallow while ours dug deeper, so Seoul didn't inherit the mood so much as go its own way. USD/KRW is 1,339.74 (-0.30%) and the dollar index 102.23 (+0.39%).
My book simply shows Kia -4.6%, Poongsan -8.4%, KT&G +3.4%, HD Hyundai Electric -22.8%, unrealized P&L only. With 6 hours 20 minutes left to the close, I'll watch whether foreign net selling keeps swelling or finally stops, and whether the 6,700 level holds.
