Still up, but short of breath with 20 minutes to the close

Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,823.59, up 0.64%, and the Nasdaq at 27,624.93, up 0.54%. With 20 minutes to the close, both are still green compared with the 03:10 brief, but the gains have thinned. That slightly cooled rally is the real scene today, as I see it.

A breather after the record high

On the 5th, the Nasdaq printed an all-time high even as U.S. Treasury yields jumped. After a session like that, I see hands taking profits today rather than pushing higher. Sectors tell the same story: cybersecurity and cybersecurity 2 are strong and prop up the tape, while biotech and bio are weak and drag on it. The Nasdaq losing more steam than the S&P 500 looks to me like tech-heavy buying pausing for air.

The won is stronger at 1,342.56 per dollar (-1.33%), and the dollar index is at 102.17 (+0.24%). The macro mood is calm. GDP Now holding Q3 growth at 3.7% is the piece of evidence that domestic demand is still standing. The last Korean session (10/6 close) split, with KOSPI -0.89% and KOSDAQ +2.98%. That is a finished figure, but set against it, today's U.S. tape inherits some of the growth-stock warmth without the excitement.

Twenty minutes left, two things I'm watching

My public book shows Microsoft +34.3%, NVIDIA +12.1%, Coca-Cola -0.8% and KB Financial -5.4%. Those are unrealized P&L figures, not today's moves. For the rest of the session I'm watching two things. First, whether the gains that have narrowed since the previous brief shrink further or stop. Second, whether cybersecurity strength and biotech weakness hold into the close. Those two will set the look of today's closing print.
