Noon: KOSPI slipped further, KOSDAQ climbed further, so I opened the flow sheet first
Right now the KOSPI sits at 6,944.69, down 0.84%, while the KOSDAQ is at 914.58, up 2.38%. Against the 10:40 brief, the KOSPI has slid another 0.43 percentage points and the KOSDAQ has added another 0.31. In an hour and a half, the gap between the two has only widened.
Sellers are selling, but the buyers look different in each market
| Market | Foreigners | Institutions |
|---|---|---|
| KOSPI | 1,080억 net sold | 4,155억 net bought |
| KOSDAQ | 1,767억 net sold | 936억 net bought |
On the KOSPI, institutions soaked up 4,155억 and the index is still pinned down. On the KOSDAQ, foreigners dumped 1,767억 and the index rose anyway, with institutions holding the line at 936억. The flow numbers alone don't explain this tape, so I'm not in a hurry to pretend they do.
Last night's US session (10/5 close) was S&P500 +0.66% and Nasdaq +1.05%, with cybersecurity and quantum computing leading. That's a finished, settled session, and today's KOSPI did not inherit the tailwind. It went the other way. I'm tempted to link it to the KOSDAQ strength, but nothing in my notes backs that up, so I'm leaving it alone. One morning headline does sit near the mood: German bond yields at a 17-year high, part of a European fiscal-strain series. I'm just glancing at it as backdrop.
My own book is quietly split
My disclosed holdings stand at Poongsan +8.1%, KT&G +1.4%, HD Hyundai Electric -13.7% and Orion -12.8% on valuation. That's accumulated P&L, not today's move, and I'm only writing the numbers down as they are.
There are 3 hours 20 minutes to the close. First, I'm watching whether foreign selling on the KOSPI grows beyond 1,080억 and whether institutions keep absorbing with 4,155억. Second, whether the KOSDAQ's 936억 institutional bid can survive the 1,767억 foreign selling to the end. I'll also see which way the won at 1,342.56 per dollar (-1.33%) and the dollar index at 102.18 (+0.25%) lean this afternoon.
