Foreigners Sold, Institutions Caught It, and the KOSDAQ Ran Further

The KOSPI rose a polite +0.25%, while the KOSDAQ sprinted further at +1.71%. The big board was quiet and only the small one stirred, and I read that gap as the character of today's session.

A hand that sells, and a hand that catches

Foreigners sold 108.0 billion won on the KOSPI and 176.7 billion on the KOSDAQ. The index held because institutions caught 415.5 billion won on the KOSPI, more than enough to cover the selling. On the KOSDAQ, institutional buying of 93.6 billion didn't even match the foreign selling, yet it still gained 1.71%. So that rally came from outside the flow numbers, from sectors and themes.

The texture of those themes is interesting. Cybersecurity and Cybersecurity 2 led, while gold miners and communications lagged. Defensive havens got sold and the security names got bought, so this was not a run-for-cover day. Add the news that LG Electronics will spend 150 billion won on a chiller plant in Virginia to go after AI data centers, and I think that story of money still flowing into AI infrastructure helped prop up the growth-leaning KOSDAQ mood.

In calm water, I picked up one name

The bigger picture isn't bright, honestly. The market is calm, but real-economy indicators are losing steam, so it's hard to say today's gain came from an improving economy. Foreigners selling on both boards fits that view. I read the KOSDAQ's +1.71% less as the start of a trend and more as a passing flutter from sector rotation.

Still, I added 068270 today. When the board is quiet, I'd rather drop things into the basket bit by bit than make one big move. This is a paper-portfolio record, not a word of advice to anyone. Tomorrow I'll watch whether institutions keep catching or foreigners keep throwing.
