A jobs shock took the rate pressure off, though the rally gave back a notch
Right now the S&P 500 is at 7,719.25, up 0.69%, and the Nasdaq is at 27,172.71, up 1.12%. Against the 01:40 brief, the S&P 500's gain has shrunk by 0.09%p and the Nasdaq's by 0.15%p. With 1 hour 50 minutes to the close, a running market is catching its breath.
| Index | Now | Change | vs. previous brief |
|---|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 | 7,719.25 | +0.69% | -0.09%p |
| Nasdaq | 27,172.71 | +1.12% | -0.15%p |
How bad news became a welcome guest
What shook the board was September payrolls: 29,000 added, just 35% of expectations, with unemployment at 4.2%. That's cold water on growth, but the odds of a Fed hold jumped to 83.9%, so the market read it as less rate pressure, and Treasuries cheered too. The Nasdaq outrunning the S&P 500 fits that story. By sector, cybersecurity and cybersecurity 2 are strong while gold miners and healthcare lag.
Today's session half-follows the last Korean one. As of the 10/2 close, KOSPI was +0.46% and KOSDAQ -0.11%, a split, finished scorecard, and the U.S. session is painting a brighter color over it. My disclosed holdings stand at ConocoPhillips +0.2%, Coca-Cola Co -1.8%, Poongsan +9.8% and KT&G +1.5% in unrealized P&L. That's the running record, not today's move.
What I'm watching before the bell
The currency catches my eye. USD/KRW is 1,356.84 (+0.47%) and the dollar index is 102.10 (+0.64%), both climbing, so I'm curious where the relief from the jobs shock meets a firmer dollar. Over the remaining 1 hour 50 minutes, my watch point is whether the gains slip further or hold at this line.
