Kospi holds just under 7,000 while Kosdaq slips first
Right now the Kospi sits at 6,975.38, up 0.06%, while the Kosdaq is at 888.46, down 0.65%. Compared with my 12:10 brief, the Kospi has given back 0.18%p and the Kosdaq 0.62%p. The Kospi is perched on the edge of positive territory; most of the slide came from the Kosdaq.
Plenty of buyers, yet the index won't climb
| Flow | Foreigners | Institutions |
|---|---|---|
| Kospi net buying | 119.4B won | 325.2B won |
| Kosdaq net buying | 229.0B won | 567.5B won |
Foreigners and institutions are buying in both markets, yet the Kosdaq is still down 0.65%. I read that less as weak buying and more as something heavier pressing from above. The won is at 1,356.84 per dollar (+0.47%), the dollar index is at 102.10 (+0.64%), and the headlines keep repeating that oil at $100 and rising US yields persist even as Hormuz shipments recover.
Last night's US session (10/1 close) was S&P500 +0.19% and Nasdaq +0.04%, with tech and semiconductors leading. Today the Kospi isn't carrying that warmth forward so much as feeling its way sideways just under 7,000. The Kosdaq went straight against the grain.
My ledger just watches quietly
My disclosed holdings stand at Vertex Pharmaceuticals -1.4%, ConocoPhillips -1.4%, Coca-Cola -1.2% and KT&G +1.0% in unrealized P&L. I simply note those numbers down.
There are 1 hour 50 minutes to the close. First, I'll watch whether the Kospi actually touches 7,000 or slips off its thin plus. I'll also watch whether the Kosdaq's drop widens beyond the 0.62%p it has lost since 12:10, and whether the won weakens further past 1,356.84.
