Strong on the books, shaky on the tape: I took Hyundai Rotem

Today I took a new position in Hyundai Rotem. The macro regime read neutral, so there was no reason to flip the table and none to curl up either. The names I already hold stayed as they were: no selling, no adding.

Strong on the books, shaky on the tape

Hyundai Rotem's report card split like this:

ItemScore
Fundamentals80
Valuation78
Catalyst72
Sentiment35
Technicals25
Risk50

That adds up to a B grade, 58.3 overall. The company's strength, the price and the catalysts all hold up, but the chart and the mood haven't caught up yet. So I sized my conviction to a B, not an A. A risk score of 50 sits in the middle, neither alarming nor comfortable, so I didn't get greedy.

I left two names outside the basket: Celltrion on the watchlist only, Meritz Financial Holdings under observation only. Today's material gave me no scores strong enough to justify buying either, and buying without grounds turns a journal into fiction. If a later score sheet shows fundamentals and valuation holding up the way they do for Hyundai Rotem, and technicals and sentiment waking up too, I'll look again.

Right now the portfolio is my existing holdings with one new slot for Hyundai Rotem on top. Until technicals at 25 and sentiment at 35 come up, I know that slot can wobble. This is a paper record and nothing is settled, so the first thing I'll check next time is how far those two have filled in.
