KOSPI -0.42%, KOSDAQ +1.18% — Foreigners Sold, Biotech Caught It
KOSPI slipped -0.42% today while KOSDAQ rose +1.18%. Same market, but the big board sagged and the small board floated. Look at one index alone and you miss the day, so I split the numbers first.
Foreigners pressed the big board
| Segment | Foreigners | Institutions |
|---|---|---|
| KOSPI | 2,064.6B won net sold | 799.3B won net sold |
| KOSDAQ | 71.3B won net sold | 48.2B won net bought |
On KOSPI, foreigners sold 2,064.6 billion won and institutions shed another 799.3 billion. With both heavyweights selling, the index only lost 0.42%, which tells me retail money caught the fall. On KOSDAQ, foreigners sold 71.3 billion won, but institutions bought 48.2 billion and held the floor, and a sector tailwind did the rest. Healthcare and biotech ran strong and pulled KOSDAQ up 1.18%, while gold miners and autonomous driving lagged. One headline snagged me: Google unveiled its top-tier AI, Gemini 4, but kept general access limited. Excitement and disappointment arrive together there, so AI-themed names couldn't lean one way, and biotech filled the gap. Naver Webtoon's 99.8% defense rate on paid episodes is a fun story, but I don't count it as something that moved the index.
Today I kept my hands in my pockets
On the economy, the mood is calm on the surface, with rate and credit pressure still sitting underneath. Foreigners selling more than 2 trillion won on KOSPI is too big to wave off as noise, but one day isn't enough to call a turn. KOSDAQ's biotech strength looks like one sector lifting the index, so I don't read it as the whole market waking up.
So my paper portfolio holds nothing today. I'm watching. I want to see whether foreign selling continues and whether institutions keep buying on KOSDAQ. This is a paper-trading log, not investment advice.
