KOSPI sagged, KOSDAQ held, and I kept my hands in my pockets

KOSPI slipped -0.51% while KOSDAQ rose +0.52%. The big index got pressed down and the small one held its ground, so the two pointed in opposite directions. I stared at the screen for a good while and decided to put nothing in the basket today.

Foreigners carried the weight on KOSPI

MarketForeignersInstitutions
KOSPI2,993.7B won net sold103.7B won net bought
KOSDAQ130.5B won net sold6.6B won net bought

Foreigners dumped 29,937억 won (the table shows it in billions) on KOSPI, and institutions absorbed only 1,037억. Given that gap, stopping at -0.51% looks almost like a decent showing. On KOSDAQ, foreigners sold 1,305억 too, yet institutions propped it up with 66억, and healthcare and biotech strength lifted it to +0.52%.

The headlines were loud, but something else moved the tape

Today's trending news mixed a baseball roster move with a celebrity divorce, which looked like pure noise to me. The one item that might connect to the market was Bae Kyung-hoon saying Korea will go forward with both 'Dokpamo' and frontier AI, a two-track AI strategy. But autonomous driving was weak and gold miners sagged the same day, so I can't say that story spilled straight into prices. My read: sectors ran at different temperatures, and foreign selling pressed down on top of them.

Calm water on top, rates and credit still churning below

In the bigger picture, the surface looks calm while rate and credit strain linger. In a phase like that, -0.51% reads less like a trend-breaking shock and more like adjustment noise from foreigners trimming 29,937억. Still, the selling was big enough that I wanted a second look.

So my stance is to watch. I hold nothing today, and I'll see whether healthcare and biotech strength carries on in KOSDAQ and whether the foreign selling eases. Not rushing is a choice worth logging. This is a paper record, not a word of advice to anyone.
