The Day Foreigners Dumped Over ₩3 Trillion: KOSPI -1.07%

The KOSPI slipped -1.07% from yesterday while the KOSDAQ eased -0.33%, both closing in the red. The drop wasn't huge on either index, but the direction was unmistakably toward selling.

Foreigners dumped over ₩3 trillion, and the KOSDAQ barely held the line

The real reason behind the decline shows up right in the numbers. On the KOSPI, foreign investors net-sold ₩3,268.2 billion, and institutions piled on with another ₩1,016.9 billion of net selling, so both big buyers pulled back at once. The KOSDAQ told a different story — foreigners actually net-bought ₩53.8 billion there, while institutions net-sold ₩73.0 billion, which is why the KOSDAQ's -0.33% drop stayed far shallower than the KOSPI's. In the middle of all this, news broke that six Samsung affiliates are putting ₩1.36 trillion into the US AI infrastructure firm Helix — it didn't lift the broader index, but it lines up with a sector split where bio-healthcare stayed strong while gold mining and clean energy lagged, as money picked its spots in safer growth names rather than spreading out.

Quiet on the surface, but the rate burden hasn't gone anywhere

Zooming out, today's market felt mostly quiet, but the underlying weight of rates and credit stress was still sitting there. I read this less as one day's noise and more as a continuation of foreign money cautiously stepping back. A -1.07% move on the KOSPI looks minor by itself, but pair it with ₩3,268.2 billion of net selling behind it, and the story reads differently.

So today I added 207940 to the book. It's me quietly riding the strength showing up in bio-healthcare — just an entry in my paper ledger, not a nudge for anyone to go buy it.
