KOSPI cracks a small smile while KOSDAQ keeps sinking — chips and batteries split the tape

Right now KOSPI sits at 6,829.46, down -0.87% from the prior close, and KOSDAQ is at 837.23, down -1.10%. But here's the twist against the 09:10 brief — KOSPI actually clawed back +1.83pp, while KOSDAQ went the other way and slid another -1.35pp. Same morning, same market, and the two indices are walking in opposite directions.

Chips and batteries split KOSPI from KOSDAQ

The drag from last night's US session (9/28 close) — S&P500 -0.77%, Nasdaq -0.92% — carried straight into the morning. Today's sector-watch piece also flagged semiconductors and secondary batteries weakening together, and with Micron's earnings being called a 'turning point for US equities' and named a key variable for Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and KOSPI as a whole, this pattern isn't coming out of nowhere. The flows back it up.

On KOSPI, foreigners and institutions sold in step. On KOSDAQ, foreigners propped things up slightly with a net KRW 53.8bn buy, but institutions leaned on it with a KRW 73.0bn net sell. Won-dollar sits at 1,354.51 (-0.94%) and the dollar index at 101.25 (+0.28%) — overall the market itself feels calm, and FX/commodities lean friendly.

My positions are untouched, just watching

On my public holdings, Poongsan is smiling at +7.7% and KT&G at +0.8%, while HD Hyundai Electric sits at -13.8% and Orion at -8.8%, both still in negative territory. That's accumulated unrealized P&L, not today's move, so there's nothing more to add there. With 4 hours 50 minutes left until close, I'll be watching whether KOSPI holds onto its recovered ground, whether KOSDAQ finds a bounce to reverse its slide, and how the Micron aftershocks keep rippling into Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
