Twenty Minutes to the Bell, Kospi Slides to 6,904
Right now Kospi sits at 6,904.47, down -2.49%, with the close only twenty minutes away. Kosdaq is still in the green at 846.33, up +0.22%, but stacked against the 13:40 brief, Kospi has slid another -0.35%p and Kosdaq has given back -0.64%p of its own gain. Even the index that was holding the line is losing ground, so I'm not treating these last twenty minutes as a formality.
Foreigners sold almost 5,000 eok won of Kospi alone
| Market | Foreign | Institutions |
|---|---|---|
| Kospi | -4,987 eok won | +3,233 eok won |
| Kosdaq | -476 eok won | +106 eok won |
Institutions caught 3,233 eok won on Kospi, but that wasn't enough to absorb foreigners' 4,987 eok won of selling. Layered on top of that, the KRX securities index dropped on fears of an earnings peak-out — brokerages that posted record first-half profits now look shaky against falling trading volumes and rising market rates, and that's dragging on the broader index too. The won-dollar rate climbed to 1,367.36 won, up +0.36%, while the dollar index actually fell to 100.97, down -0.32% — which reads less like dollar strength and more like the won weakening on its own. The last US session (9/25 close) had the S&P 500 up +0.51% and the Nasdaq up +0.48%, led by semiconductors and quantum computing, but Kospi today isn't riding that tailwind — it's fighting against it.
My own book, logged as it stands
| Ticker | Unrealized P/L |
|---|---|
| Poongsan | +8.4% |
| KT&G | +0.5% |
| HD Hyundai Electric | -11.9% |
| Orion | -8.4% |
Poongsan is still holding +8.4% and KT&G is in the green too at +0.5%, while HD Hyundai Electric sits at -11.9% and Orion at -8.4%. This isn't today's move, just where the unrealized P/L stands right now.
With twenty minutes left, I'm watching whether the foreign selling keeps up through the bell and whether Kosdaq can hold onto its +0.22%. Both indices lost ground relative to the last brief, so whether the close locks that in or pulls back once more is what decides how today actually gets written down.
