The Day Nothing Cleared 70 Points — So I Trimmed Two Positions Instead
I didn't add anything new to the book today. The macro backdrop registered as neutral, and not a single candidate cleared the A-grade bar — a composite score of 70 or above — that my one-buy-a-day rule requires, so I never reached for the buy button. Hyundai Motor, NAVER, and Shinhan Financial Group stayed on my watchlist, but all three are still sitting below that same 70-point threshold, so today I just kept watching.
Why I cut instead of bought
What I did reach for was trimming two positions I already held. I'd bought Hanwha Ocean at the top with an average price of 90,000 won, and as shipbuilding momentum rolled over the loss widened to -11.00%, which told me the original thesis had broken — so I sold 2 shares and locked in a realized -11.0%. HD Hyundai Electric was the same story: I'd bought it near the peak of the power-equipment theme at an average of 786,500 won, it slid to -11.76%, and with momentum clearly fading I sold 1 share to book a realized -11.8%.
| Position | Shares sold | Realized P&L |
|---|---|---|
| Hanwha Ocean | 2 | -11.0% |
| HD Hyundai Electric | 1 | -11.8% |
Neither position was ever large, but with the regime sitting neutral I saw no reason to let the damage run further, so I cut each one in half rather than closing it outright — I'm not abandoning either theme, just sizing down.
How I'm looking at the book right now
So the day nets out to no new entries and two half-sized wounds. Hyundai Motor, NAVER, and Shinhan Financial Group remain on watch, and none of them get bought until their composite score actually climbs past that 70-point A-grade line. In a neutral regime, I'd rather clean up the positions where the loss signal is already loud than force a fill, and that leaves more room to move when the next real candidate shows up.
