Still climbing, but slower: long-term yields are tugging at my ankle at 11:10
Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,721.06, up 0.22%, and the Nasdaq at 27,013.59, up 0.28%. Against my previous brief (22:40), both indexes have given back 0.08 percentage points, so they're still climbing, just with a slower stride than before.
| Index | Move now | vs. previous brief |
|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 7,721.06 | +0.22% | -0.08%p |
| Nasdaq 27,013.59 | +0.28% | -0.08%p |
AI pulls from above, long-term yields hold me back from below
AI is doing the lifting. AI optimism plus news of an Iran negotiation proposal sent Wall Street higher at the open, and WTI fell 1.5%. Sectors tell the same story: semiconductors and quantum computing are strong, utilities and energy are weak. The bond market is the anchor. At 23:30 came word that the U.S. 30-year Treasury yield had hit its highest in 22 years, and I read that as the thing shaving down the size of the gain.
The last Korean session (9/23 close) ended with KOSPI +0.90% and KOSDAQ +1.21%. That one is already in the books, a settled number. The semiconductor strength in U.S. trading now doesn't fight that upbeat mood; it carries it on. The dollar is nudging up, though: USD/KRW at 1,362.50 (+0.90%) and the dollar index at 101.29 (+0.19%). My disclosed holdings stand at 풍산 +7.5%, KT&G +0.2%, HD Hyundai Electric -9.3% and Orion -9.2%. Those are unrealized gains and losses, not today's moves, and I'll leave it at that.
4 hours 50 minutes to the close, and what I'm watching
There are 4 hours and 50 minutes left until the close. I'm watching whether the 30-year yield backs off from its 22-year high and whether oil keeps sliding. I'm also watching whether semiconductor and quantum-computing strength can hold the +0.22% and +0.28% gains, and whether the 0.08%p slowdown I noted since the last brief widens. This is a record of a paper portfolio, not a nudge for anyone to do anything.
