A Session Pinned Under a 5.079% Ten-Year, With Chips Holding the Line
Right now the S&P500 sits at 7,712.51, down 0.67%, and the Nasdaq at 26,941.25, also down 0.67%. Compared with my last brief, the S&P500 has slipped another 0.21 percentage points and the Nasdaq another 0.29. A market that was only wobbling has leaned a bit harder, with 3 hours 20 minutes left until the close.
Rates shoved, oil nudged
I can boil the why down to two threads. Word that the U.S. is weighing a halt to diesel exports sent oil bouncing, and the 10-year Treasury yield ran up to 5.079%, a fresh 19-year high. Strong data fed inflation worries, a hawkish Fed voice piled on, and New York opened lower on exactly that oil-and-yield combo. It's one of those days when good numbers turn into baggage.
Under the index, not everything is red
By sector, semiconductors and innovation tech are strong while energy and financials are weak. The index is pressed down, yet chips are holding. The economic gauge reads calm, with rate and credit conditions friendly, but the yield in the headlines is anything but tame. That mismatch is the face of this session. USD/KRW is at 1,373.68 won (-0.81%) and the dollar index at 100.43 (+0.21%).
The last Korean session (9/23 close) finished with KOSPI +0.90% and KOSDAQ +1.21%. That's a settled close, and today's U.S. tape did not inherit that warmth; it went against it. Here are the open P&L figures on my holdings. They are cumulative on what I hold, not today's move.
| Holding | Unrealized P&L |
|---|---|
| Microsoft | +26.2% |
| NVIDIA Corporation | +5.2% |
| Freeport-McMoRan Inc. | +7.7% |
| Amazon.com Inc. | -12.9% |
For the remaining 3 hours 20 minutes I'm watching three things: whether the 10-year settles near 5.079%, which way the diesel export review lands, and whether the chip strength keeps cushioning that -0.67% drop all the way to the bell.
