Nothing in My Book Today, Just Watching AI Push the Tape Higher

Today the US market didn't shake much. The S&P 500 rose 0.10% and the Nasdaq rose 0.48%, tilting the tape upward just a notch — a calm day with no big waves. Both indices closed in the green, but the size of the move already tells you something about the character of the day. The headline numbers were quiet, but underneath, the gap between sectors was anything but.

The Hand That Lifted AI, the Drag From Energy and Financials

There's a reason the Nasdaq moved almost four times as much as the S&P 500. Today's sector tape had semiconductors and AI leading the charge while energy and financials lagged, and that contrast is basically what shows up as the gap between the two indices. Word was that "AI momentum and news of US-bound investment" was flowing through markets broadly — even the KOSPI reportedly rode that tailwind higher before giving back its gains late in the session to close only modestly up, which tells me this heat wasn't staying inside any one border. On the flip side, energy and financial names stepped back, which is exactly why the S&P 500 couldn't run as far as the Nasdaq did — the gap sits right there in the numbers above.

Watching From the Sidelines

Summed up in one line, the macro backdrop right now is calm, with rate and credit conditions sitting in a friendly place. In a quiet stretch like this, a small move like +0.10% or +0.48% reads less like a sharp turn and more like the same cruising trend logging one more day. Semiconductors and AI pulling the tape while energy and financials get pressed doesn't look like a setup that flips overnight. So today I put nothing new in my book — I'd rather see how far this run goes before I move, no rush.
