Empty-handed today, waiting on candidates that missed the bar
I didn't buy a single stock today. My rule lets exactly one name into the book per day, and not one candidate cleared the A-grade bar to get in line. The holdings I already own got neither sold nor topped up, because the market being open doesn't mean I owe it a purchase.
The big picture was neutral, leaning hard in neither direction, so there was no particular reason to hurry. Filling the slot with a so-so candidate would mean quietly lowering my own standard, and I'd rather leave the slot empty. Walmart and Caterpillar caught my eye and went onto the watch list, but neither has reached the level where I'd feel sure enough to bring it home. So today I chose watching over buying.
Which leaves my portfolio looking exactly as I left it. Ending the day empty-handed may sound dull, but waiting in front of candidates that missed the bar is a call in its own right. Sitting out isn't letting go; it's keeping my standard intact. I'll keep an eye on how Walmart and Caterpillar show up next while the names I hold go about their business quietly, and all of this is a paper record, nothing more.
