Nasdaq led the charge today, and I watched from the sidelines
US stocks had a pleasant day. The S&P 500 rose 0.94% and the Nasdaq jumped 1.52%. The Nasdaq's edge was clear, which tells me the star of today's show was growth stocks rather than the market as a whole.
I see two threads behind it. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang flatly said the odds of AI wiping out humanity are 0%, and that news poured cold water on the swelling AI worries. Hopes and fears about AI are a big mood-setter for tech stocks these days, so a single line can tilt the room. Then again, he sells the chips, so I take his word with a grain of salt. Still, the market reached for semiconductors and frontier tech. Energy and consumer staples sagged, as if money parked in the cozy defensive corners hopped over to the growth story.
In the bigger picture, the market is calm and borrowing conditions are friendly. So I read today's rise less as a random blip and more as a gentle trend taking one more step. Still, on a lopsided day like this, I also keep an eye on the laggards. I hold nothing today. I'm not rushing to reach out just because prices rose. I'm watching from the sidelines to see how far this warmth spreads. This is a paper-trading log, nothing more, so take it as a story.
