A Calm Ripple, Index Catching Its Breath

U.S. stocks basically went nowhere today. The S&P 500 slipped 0.06% while the Nasdaq inched up 0.03% — barely a move either way. It felt like sellers and buyers wrestled all session and called it a draw, quietly wrapping up without much drama.

Dig a little and the reasons show up. AI landed on the agenda for the US-China summit, and the story making the rounds was that Washington frets over AI as a threat to humanity while Beijing worries about it as a threat to the regime itself. That chatter pulled cybersecurity names higher, while utilities and financials lagged behind. With no real reason to hide in safe havens today, money leaned toward the buzzy AI-and-security theme instead of the usual defensive sectors.

Zoom out and the market is floating on a genuinely calm surface right now — rates and credit conditions are both friendly. A wobble like today's is just a small ripple on that calm water, not a sign the trend has turned. So instead of chasing anything, I sat this one out — no new names today, just watching.
