A Quiet Late Session Where Only Financials and Utilities Sag

Right now the S&P 500 sits at 7,628.70, down 0.12%, and the Nasdaq's at 26,411.44, off just 0.03% — with an hour fifty left before the close, the tape's basically holding its breath. Compared to my last check-in at 1:40am, the S&P clawed back 0.11 points and the Nasdaq 0.14 points, so we're clearly steadier than we were earlier in the session.

New York opened mixed to begin with, caught between Middle East jitters and some relief that Saudi supply worries were easing, and that same push-pull seems to be dragging into the afternoon. Cybersecurity names are the lone bright spot sector-wise while financials and utilities are sagging, and it doesn't hurt that the Fed just said it's revisiting its bank stress-test framework in the coming weeks — that's the kind of headline that leans on bank stocks. And unlike yesterday's Kospi, which closed up a punchy 2.66% with the Kosdaq adding 0.60%, today's US session isn't riding that same wave — it's more of a pause than a continuation.

The won slipped to 1,376.60 per dollar, up 0.96%, even as the dollar index itself actually dipped 0.09% — a mismatch I'm just noting for now. On my own book, Freeport-McMoRan's sitting pretty at +6.6% while Amazon's still down 11.6%, HD Hyundai Electric off 7.6%, and Vertex down 4.2% — same unrealized marks as before, nothing new there. With an hour fifty left, I'm watching whether cybersecurity holds its lead and whether financials and utilities dig themselves deeper.
