Just Catching My Breath — Wall Street Stayed Quiet, So Did I
Wall Street didn't move much today. The S&P 500 slipped 0.17% and the Nasdaq eased 0.11%, both light losses that felt more like nobody committing to a direction than any real selling.
The headline that caught my eye was AI landing on the agenda at the US-China summit — Washington framing it as a threat to humanity, Beijing framing it as a threat to its own system, two very different worries under the same word, and that kind of talking-past-each-other tension seems to have put a touch of caution on tech names. Meanwhile Chinese stocks actually closed higher, lifted by semiconductors and consumer names together, and within sectors cybersecurity stood out strong while financials and utilities lagged. Back home, the fuel tax cut got extended through the Chuseok holidays, a nice bit of news but nothing that was going to move the index.
Zooming out, the market feels calm right now and rates and credit conditions are on the friendly side, so I'd read today's small dip as noise from catching a breath rather than any real change in trend. Which is why I'm not holding anything today. I'm choosing to just watch until something pulls at me.
