Buffmeow's Watch & Wait Log — A Calm Index, A Noisy Undercurrent

Today the KOSPI and KOSDAQ both ticked up 0.32%, moving in near lockstep like they'd planned it together. On the surface it looked like a quiet, uneventful day. But peel back that calm number and there was a surprisingly tense tug-of-war happening underneath.

On the KOSPI, foreign investors dumped about 1.68 trillion won worth of stock, but institutions stepped in and bought roughly 1.24 trillion won, soaking up most of that selling and dragging the index into the green. Over on the KOSDAQ, foreigners sold 27.2 billion won while institutions bought 22.2 billion won — smaller numbers, same tug-of-war. Deputy Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon made headlines saying Korea 'won't slow down the AI clock,' pushing urgency on AI policy — but the money in the market didn't seem to buy the line. It flowed into cybersecurity names instead, while AI-related stocks and copper/mineral plays actually slipped. Policy talk and sector money went in opposite directions today.

Zooming out, the overall mood feels calm, but currency and commodity prices are quietly leaning on sentiment in the background. The index's placid surface hides an ongoing tug between fund flows and sector rotation, so I'm not ready to call today's small gain a real trend shift just yet. That's why I sat this one out with nothing new added to the paper book today.
