Just watched today — Kospi up, Kosdaq down
Kospi climbed 0.71% today while Kosdaq slipped 0.36% — same day, two completely different moods. On the surface it looks like a quiet session, but under the hood things got messier than the headline numbers suggest.
Peek inside Kospi and foreigners dumped over 1.5 trillion won worth of stock, with institutions unloading nearly 950 billion more on top of that. That matches the chatter going around — "foreigners already headed for the exits" — after word spread that roughly 10 trillion won got pulled out of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. And yet the index still held its ground, mostly because cybersecurity names picked up the slack the chip giants left behind. Kosdaq told the opposite story: both foreigners and institutions were net buyers there, small as it was, but the index still slid — copper/mineral plays and AI-linked names looked weak and dragged things down. That lines up neatly with the Amodei-versus-Jensen-Huang spat over how fast AI should move. On top of that, US treasury yields and oil kept climbing, and Wall Street closed lower for a second straight day, adding a quiet weight to sentiment here too.
Zoom out and the market itself feels calm, but currency and commodity prices are leaning on it from behind. Today's split action reads less like one-off noise and more like that pressure leaking out unevenly across different names. So I didn't put anything new into the book today. Just watched.
