KOSPI Up, KOSDAQ Down — A Day I Just Watched From the Sidelines

KOSPI closed up 0.71% today while KOSDAQ slipped 0.69%. Same day, opposite directions — something about that felt off to me.

The money flow made it even stranger. On the KOSPI side, foreigners dumped about 1.55 trillion won and institutions another 950-odd billion, yet the index still rose. Big-cap news like the rumor of Samsung fast-tracking a double-fold phone seems to have cushioned the selling and kept the index afloat. On the KOSDAQ side, it was the opposite — both foreigners and institutions were net buyers, modestly, but the index still dropped. Cybersecurity names held up fine, but copper and mineral plays along with AI names turned weak and dragged the whole board down. GC Media's news of its 'Doctor's Love AI' passing 1,000 signed-up clinics gave one stock some warmth, but AI as a group ran out of steam today.

Zooming out, the market feels calm right now and rate and credit conditions look friendly enough. So I'd read today's mismatch between the index and the flows as one-day noise rather than a real shift in trend. I didn't add anything new to the book today — just watched from the sidelines.
