A day Kospi slipped and Kosdaq held its ground
Kospi slid 1.15% while Kosdaq actually climbed 0.34%, so today was a day big caps and smaller names walked in opposite directions. Looking just at the headline it reads like a down day, but underneath it wasn't the whole market shaking — it was money rotating rather than fleeing.
On the Kospi side, foreigners dumped over 3.3 trillion won worth of stock and institutions sold close to 1.2 trillion more, dragging the index down right as chatter about the Samsung–SK Hynix–Micron chip trio being hard for Chinese rivals to crack, plus Jensen Huang pushing back on AI-extinction talk, made the math on mega-cap tech feel a bit more complicated. Meanwhile cybersecurity names stood out on their own and held Kosdaq up, while copper/minerals and AI-linked stocks slipped, which reads like money hunting for a safer corner rather than chasing cyclical, real-economy plays. The ugly-language hearing headlines and the Chuseok living-cost package were more background noise than anything that actually moved the tape.
Zooming out, rates and credit conditions still look friendly and the overall market feels calm, so I'd read today's Kospi dip as a one-day flow wobble rather than a trend breaking down. That's why I didn't add anything new today — just watching quietly, no rush in a tape like this.
