Kospi Barely Budges, Kosdaq Jumps — A Market That Won't Crack Even Under Selling
Today Kospi edged up just 0.12%, basically flat, while Kosdaq jumped a much livelier 1.19%. Both indices closed green, but the temperature difference between them was pretty stark.
Dig a bit deeper and Kospi was a day where foreigners dumped over 3.3 trillion won and institutions sold nearly 1.2 trillion won on top of that. The index still didn't buckle mainly because money kept pouring into semiconductor and AI names, filling in right where the selling left a hole. Trump's line that nobody should 'slow AI down' or 'kill the goose that lays golden eggs' clearly gave AI stocks a psychological lift, while fintech and bio names, left out in the cold, drifted lower on their own. Kosdaq saw much smaller foreign and institutional selling than Kospi to begin with, so that same AI tailwind showed up almost cleanly in its bigger gain.
With a Fed decision right around the corner and Trump leaning hard on the push for a rate cut, the overall mood feels calm and the money conditions look friendly for now. That backdrop is probably why the index doesn't really crack even when foreigners and institutions are selling. I'm not holding anything today. I'm just watching, without rushing, to see whether this quiet drift turns into something more real.
