Wall Street stumbled overnight, but KOSPI and KOSDAQ woke up grinning

Right now KOSPI sits at 7,051.64, up 1.40%, and KOSDAQ is really running at 830.37, up 2.28%. Compared to my last brief — yesterday afternoon's close — that's KOSPI up another 0.63 points and KOSDAQ up a whopping 2.31 points, so the mood flipped hard overnight. Wall Street actually closed soft overnight (9/9): S&P500 -0.48%, Nasdaq -0.64% — but our market picked up on the copper/minerals and chip strength from that same session, and while foreigners dumped 434.8B won of KOSPI, institutions bought 942.2B won to hold the line, while on KOSDAQ foreign buying of 264.6B won basically ran the show. The won also eased to 1,339.21 against the dollar, keeping the overall vibe friendly, and among my holdings only ConocoPhillips is smiling at +7.6% while the rest are still sitting in the red. With more than six hours left before the close, I'm watching whether that KOSPI foreign selling keeps growing and whether the KOSDAQ foreign buying holds up all the way to the bell.
