Kospi Jumps Past 3% — the Day Institutions Poured In 1.7 Trillion Won
Kospi rocketed 3.12% today and Kosdaq tagged along with a 1.69% gain, so it was a genuinely lively session. On the Kospi side, institutions loaded up with about 1.67 trillion won in net buying while foreigners chipped in another 480 billion, and that combo is really what shoved the index upward; Kosdaq showed the same pattern, with foreigners and institutions both turning net buyers and spreading the same warmth. Chip tailwinds sent equipment and materials names surging right out of the gate, and chatter about secondary batteries and AI platforms (names like LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, SKT, NHN) being next in line seemed to add rotation-driven buying on top of that. By sector, energy and clean energy led while cybersecurity and copper/minerals lagged, so money clearly had a direction today rather than just drifting. With rates and credit conditions staying friendly and the broader market feeling calm, I'd read this rally less as a one-off flash and more as capital rotating and settling into a trend that's still playing out. That said, I didn't add a single name today — just watched from the sidelines to see how far this tailwind actually carries.
