Kospi Catches Its Breath After the Opening Pop, Kosdaq Steps on the Gas

Kospi's sitting at 6,687.21 (+1.64%) and Kosdaq at 813.50 (+2.95%) right out of the gate this morning. If the headlines are right, Kospi actually spiked to 6,910.78 (+3.34%) at the open, but that initial rush has cooled off — I'm now up 0.33 percentage points less than my last check-in, while Kosdaq picked up an extra 0.25 points instead. Foreigners and institutions both leaned in harder on buying across both markets, and with the won firming up and a brokerage bumping its SK Hynix target on the back of that, chips are catching a little extra warmth. Wall Street's last close (9/4) had both the Nasdaq and S&P dipping slightly, so today Seoul is basically shrugging that off and running on its own buying momentum. In my book, Poongsan's up 9.1% and Samsung Electronics up 6.2%, while KT&G's down 1.1% and Deoksan Neolux down 6.4% — for the rest of the session I'll be watching whether this rally and the foreign/institutional buying actually hold.
