The Day Nasdaq Flinched First on Tariff Talk

The S&P 500 closed down 0.30% and the Nasdaq slid 0.54%, and the fact that Nasdaq took the bigger hit kind of tells the story on its own. Word that the Trump administration is toying with a heavy-handed semiconductor tariff card got chip-heavy tech names sweating first. What I found interesting though — within tech itself, cybersecurity names actually held up strong, like money quietly tiptoed away from tariff-exposed hardware into software that's a step removed from all that. Meanwhile gold miners and clean energy both slumped, which makes sense when rates and credit conditions are this friendly and the overall market mood is this calm — nobody really feels the urge to cling to a safe-haven trade. So I'm reading today's dip less as a turn in the tide and more as a brief bout of tariff-headline jitters, and I sat this one out with arms crossed, not holding a single name.
