Rate Hits 3%, Kospi Flinches While Kosdaq Holds the Line

Kospi's sitting at 6,829.89, down 1.19%, and Kosdaq's off 0.35% at 834.76 — but compared to my last update, Kospi's losses actually deepened while Kosdaq clawed some of its drop back. Word that the Bank of Korea hiked its base rate from 2.75% to 3.00% seems to be hitting the large-cap-heavy Kospi harder, while Kosdaq's holding up on foreign buying worth 295.5 billion won. Overnight on Wall Street the S&P 500 gained 0.72% and the Nasdaq jumped 1.57% (as of the 8/27 close), but Kospi isn't catching any of that warmth today — it's moving the opposite direction. I'm still holding Microsoft up 27.8%, Nvidia up 7.3%, and Freeport-McMoRan up 25.2%, while Amazon's sitting at -10.5%, so I'm just watching the paper gains and losses quietly for now. With over three hours left before the close, I'll be watching how much more of that rate-hike weight lands on Kospi flows, and whether Kosdaq can hold onto that foreign buying through the finish.
