Nvidia's Spell Wears Off, Meta's Lawsuit Looms — I Sat This One Out
The S&P 500 slipped -0.05% and the Nasdaq -0.27% today — nothing dramatic, more like the market catching its breath. What caught my attention was the chatter that Nvidia's earnings no longer work as a rising tide for the whole chip sector, like one of the usual triggers for earnings-season rallies quietly lost its magic. Meanwhile Meta agreed to an $18 billion settlement over a child-harm lawsuit and promised platform changes, which read to me as a sign that big-tech risk these days is coming from courtrooms and regulators as much as from earnings sheets. At the same time, news of a semiconductor boom stacking up with vacation-season spending pushed corporate sentiment to a four-year high, and word that the president sat down with Lee Jae-yong, Chey Tae-won, and Chung Eui-sun to talk AI and U.S. investment tells me the bigger picture still has growth hopes very much alive. Sector-wise, copper, minerals, and gold miners were firm while cybersecurity lagged, so money quietly leaned toward commodities and safer plays, and calm, favorable currency and commodity conditions backed up that drift. None of these signals gave me enough conviction either way, so I didn't touch a single name today — just watched from the sidelines.
