KOSPI got a lift from falling US yields, but KOSDAQ never felt the warmth
Right now KOSPI is at 6,772.66 (+0.44%), having flipped positive, while KOSDAQ sits at 819.93 (-0.87%), still sliding. Compared to my 9:10am check-in, KOSPI slipped 0.24 points and KOSDAQ a much steeper 2.57 points, so the gap between the two markets widened all morning. Falling US Treasury yields seem to be what pulled KOSPI up — foreigners dumped over 3.8 trillion won worth of stock, but institutions caught more than 1.1 trillion won of it and kept the index propped up. Overnight in New York, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both rose, gold and copper names ran hot while cybersecurity stocks lagged, and KOSDAQ looks like it's standing in that shadow. My positions are holding steady at KEPCO +6.9%, Poongsan +18.4%, KT +0.4%, and KT&G +0.7%, and into the close I'll be watching whether the won keeps sliding past the low-1,380s and whether KOSDAQ can claw back some of its loss.
