A Breather Rally — Gold and Copper Smile, Cybersecurity Frowns

It's 2pm New York time and the S&P 500 is sitting around 7,667, up 0.19%, with the Nasdaq up 0.44% — still green, but the climb has clearly lost some steam since my early-morning brief. Gold and copper miners are getting the love while cybersecurity names are getting pushed down, which reads to me like money quietly rotating into hard assets. Target's getting knocked for its Halloween costume controversy and Footlocker's parent just cut its outlook, so consumer-side headlines are noisy, but calmer Treasury markets and talk of that $1 trillion buyback war chest are keeping the overall rate-and-credit mood friendly. Korea's market already closed out yesterday (8/25) on a strong note — Kospi +0.68%, Kosdaq +1.70% — and this US session is moving a lot more cautiously by comparison. In my own book, Freeport-McMoRan is still the standout at +26.5% while Isu Petasys and HD Hyundai Electric sit in the red, and with an hour fifty left before the close, I'm just watching whether this pace holds.
