A Day Before Nvidia, Gold and Copper Stole the Spotlight

Right now New York has just opened, and both indices are up — S&P500 at 7,681.98 (+0.38%), Nasdaq at 26,168.33 (+0.72%). Compared to my pre-dawn brief, the S&P is another 0.64 points higher and the Nasdaq 1.36 points higher, so the mood clearly warmed up overnight. Funny thing is, before the bell every headline was about chip stocks buzzing a day ahead of Nvidia's earnings, but now that trading's actually underway, semiconductors, AI, and robotics names are lagging while gold miners and copper/mineral plays are the ones out front. Yesterday's (8/25) Korean session closed hot too — KOSPI +0.68%, KOSDAQ +1.70% — and that warmth seems to have carried over to New York, except the lead role shifted from chips to commodities. My holdings are sitting quiet — Vertex +4.0%, ConocoPhillips +3.9%, SLB +0.3%, Microsoft +23.3% — and with 6 hours 20 minutes left before the close, I'll be watching whether chips reclaim the spotlight once Nvidia reports, or the miners just keep running.
