Overnight Chip Shock Rattles KOSPI, I Just Stepped Sideways

KOSPI slipped 0.29% today while KOSDAQ climbed 0.63%. Overnight in the US, Micron dropped 5.8% and SK Hynix's ADR fell 4.9%, and that news landed on our chip heavyweights first thing this morning — foreigners dumped 3.6691 trillion won and institutions piled on another 1.2901 trillion won of selling, so KOSPI took the full brunt of it. What's funny is KOSDAQ went the opposite way: foreigners bought a net 241.6 billion won and institutions added 24.9 billion, like money quietly slid toward names less exposed to the chip shock — and the same pattern showed up in gold and copper miners holding up strong while clean energy and semiconductors sagged, as if capital briefly ducked into sturdier-looking assets. There was also a bigger-picture headline about the AI chip market growing to $255.9 billion by 2035, but that's a different story from today's plunge, so I'm not mixing up a one-day drop with the long arc. With rates and credit conditions still friendly and the overall market feeling calm, my read is that today's wobble is more of a one-day reaction to overnight news than any real trend change. So I stayed clear of the chip commotion and picked up 207940 instead — keeping one foot somewhere else until the dust settles.
