Chips wobbled today, I just watched
US stocks pulled back quietly today, the S&P 500 down 0.24% and the Nasdaq down a sharper 0.60%. The extra drag on Nasdaq came from chip sentiment — word of Samsung Electronics cratering 8% in a single session crossed the Pacific and spooked semiconductor names everywhere. There was good news too, DDR4 prices climbing right alongside DDR5, but the market apparently cared more about the buyback disappointment, investors wanted share cancellations and didn't get them. There was even a bold forecast floating around that Samsung could overtake Apple as the top phone maker this year, yet the stock did the opposite of celebrate, so today the headlines and the price action just didn't match. Meanwhile gold and copper miners caught a bid, like money quietly slipped sideways away from shaky tech into hard assets. Rates and credit still look friendly and the broader tape stayed calm, so I'm reading this as a shower confined to the chip sector rather than a sign the whole trend is turning. Either way, I didn't touch anything today, just watched from the sidelines.
